How to Keep Your Child's Mind Active This Summer
Before school lets out for summer and you suddenly realize you have nothing planned for your child, don't stress. Instead of allowing your child to sleep in daily and pass the days playing video games, consider these fun and educational summer activities that will help keep your child's mind active.
Visit Local Museums
Museums, aquariums, and planetariums are all great field trip options for the summer. No matter what grade your child is in, there is sure to be something for them to learn at any of these spaces. The great thing about visiting a museum or aquarium is that your child will be so busy observing or interacting with exhibits they won't even realize they're taking part in academic activities. Look for exhibits that your child can relate to what they learned in school for an ever richer experience.
Sign up for Extracurricular Activities
To keep your child busy and learning, sign them up for a new extracurricular activity. The great thing about these activities is that there are so many to choose from that your child is sure to find one they love. They can sign up for physically active classes, like soccer or dance, or even more creative classes, like painting or a music class. Figure out what's available locally and encourage your child to find at least one they're interested in.
If you're looking for an educational and fun activity you can take care of at home, why not cook together? Get some cookbooks from the library or look up recipes together online before heading out to buy the items you need. Encourage your child to practice their math skills during your shopping trip by having them weigh produce, count items, and estimate prices. Once you're at home and cooking, have them measure items and read the instructions out loud to you. Your child will not only be practicing their math skills, but they will also be improving their reading abilities.
